Easy transport from Salzburg

There are frequent trains from the Salzburg Main Train Station to Zell am See.  By train, the journey is approximately 90 min and costs from 14.10 € (plus 3€ for a seat reservation).  There are trains departing at least hourly from 6 am to 22:15.

The ÖBB trains Economy class is very comfortable, air-conditioned and many trains have power outlets, free Wi-Fi, tables and an on-board bistro.

To guarantee your journey on a particular route, especially during holidays, we recommend including a seat reservation with your ticket purchase. For 3€ you can select a window seat, a seat with a table, close to the luggage racks or in the quiet section.   

Reserve your tickets directly with ÖBB. The 2023 train schedule will be implemented on December 11, 2022.

From the Salzburg W.A Mozart Airport take the Obus2 to the Salzburg Main Train Station.

 

Alternatively, the Regional Bus 260 departs directly from the Salzburg W.A Mozart Airport to Zell am See. The 1 hr 45 min journey costs 14.10 € for adult full fare and travels via Bad Reichenhall, Lofer and Saalfelden.

Zell am See to Kaprun

From Zell am See, Regional Bus 660 departs from the Zell am See Postplatz via the Bahnhof, AreitXpress Gondola to Kaprun.  The journey takes 15 minutes and costs 3.10 € for an adult full fare (free with Ski pass) and departs every 15 minutes from December 25 to April 10, 2023.

Direct train service from Vienna to Zell am See

In addition to the normal train service to Zell am See from Vienna, ÖBB has announced a direct train service from Vienna to Zell am See-Kaprun from December 23, 2022, to April 10. 2023.  The trains travel via St Pölten, Linz and Salzburg.

Trains from Germany to Zell am See-Kaprun

From Munich, the train journey to Zell am See is 3-4 hours.  Trains depart from the Munich Main train station (München HBF) or Munich Ostbahnhof with connections to Zell am See at either Wörgl or Schwarzach St Veit. 

Direct Trains from Munich & Hamburg

Beginning Friday 16 December to 25 March 2021, the ICE "Großglockner" provides a direct (in 3 hours) connection from München HBF or Munich Ostbahnhof to Zell am See on Fridays and Saturdays with return to Munich on Saturdays and Sundays.   

The ICE "Großglockner" will also transport guests from Hamburg, Hanover, Fulda, Würzburg (via Munich) directly to Zell am See on Friday and return on Sunday.

Ski Express from Amsterdam and Utrecht

From December 23, 2022, to March 31, 2023, the TUI Ski Express will bring visitors from Amsterdam or Utrecht. Departing Friday night, arriving in Zell am See the next morning.

The information about the TUI Ski Express is only available in Dutch.

 

Sweden and Denmark to Zell am See

Snälltåget offers direct trains to Zell am See during the winter season 2022/23. The night train departs Fridays from Malmö via Høje Taastrup (outside of Copenhagen), Odense and Kolding, arriving at Zell am See on Saturday morning. With departures on December 22 and 29 and every Friday from January 6th until March 10, 2023.  The return journey takes place a week later Saturday evening - arriving in Denmark and Sweden on Sunday.

At Christmas and New Year holidays, the train departs one day earlier from Denmark and Sweden.
